Introduction

Hey guys it’s me again and this time I am going to review on a movie that is pretty close to me. The movie that I am going to review is Crazy Rich Asians. Crazy Rich Asians is an American romantic comedy movie directed by Jon.M.Chu which is based on a novel with the same title that was published in 2013 by Kevin Kwan. The movie starts by fellow Malaysian Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh and fellow cast member such as Constance Wu from Fresh off the boat, Ken Jeong from the hangover franchise, Gemma Chan, Awkwafina and many more. This movie follows an American lecturer who falls in love with a fellow Singaporean and decides to meet his family back in Singapore just to find out that his family is one of the richest family in the whole of Singapore.
Plot
Back in 1995, Eleanor Young played by Michelle Young enters a hotel and seeks for help so that she could check into her room but unfortunately, she wasn’t allowed to check in. After talking to her husband, she actually managed to buy the entire hotel and it was the start of the dynasty of the Young family. Now in 2018, Nick Young is dating a professor named Rached Chu who teaches in New York University(NYU) and he suggests to his then girlfriend to visit Singapore as he is the best man for his best friend’s wedding. Without hesitating, she accepted his offer and accompanied him to Singapore. She was a bit shocked when she was asked to move to first class but when she asked Nick how wealthy is he, he replied his comfortable. Upon arriving in Singapore’s airport, they were greeted by his best friend who is getting married and his fiancee and they both went to the nearest hawker stall to grab something to eat. The very next day, Rachel decides to visit her ex-college mate Peik Lin. While having lunch, Rachel shared an interesting message when she said she was dating Nick. Peik’s family was really shocked knowing that fact as they explained to Rachel that the Young’s are a known family among the community for being one of the richest family in Singapore. Even though Peik warns Rachel that the Young’s associate and family might treat her differently as she is not from the same sort of family background, Rachel ignores that fact and still attended the gala dinner. It was then when Rachel met Nick’s family for the first time. Rachel notices that Nick’s mother dislike Rachel but his grandmother seems to like her. During the bachelorette party, Rachel received a threat while with Nick, he was discussing the idea of proposing to Rachel. Nick cousin’s Astrid comforts Rachel till the night ended. As Nick and Rachel got back, she told the incident to Nick and he apologized and asked her if she would want to join them to make dumplings. Rachel noticed Eleanor’s engagement ring and Eleanor explained that her mother in law wasn’t fond of her and she also said that Rachel would never be good enough for Nick. Rachel was upset but Peik cheered Rachel up suggested that she should up her game by dressing like how the Young’s would dress for the wedding which would be in something grand. While riding together with her husband, Astrid confronted her husband about his affair and he admitted to it. He left halfway during the car ride and Astrid arrived the wedding with her grandmother During the wedding day, she managed to befriend Princess Intan who is usually cold and seems to be alone. During the reception, Eleanor and her mother in law managed to dig something up about Rachel’s past by revealing that her was conceived through an affair and her dad is still alive. Rachel left the reception crying while Nick’s mother forbidden him from seeing Rachel in fear that the scandal might be exposed. Kerry ran away from her husband by flying to America so that he can’t track her down. Kerry urged Rachel to meet with Nick and he proposed to Rachel but she declined. Rachel met Eleanor for a game of mahjong and she deliberately lost the game to Eleanor symbolizing her sacrifices and leaves with her mother. Recommendation
I would recommend my readers to watch this movie as it talks about how someone would do anything to please others and still win in life and not lose any part of it. Do good get better as they say. Not only that, it also shows our culture as a multiracial country and we should always go back to our roots no matter wherever you are. Most importantly is it displays that whatever it is, family comes first regardless anything and family would do anything for each other’s happiness. I would rate it a 9/10.
